About Carien van Dongen

Carien took classes with Philippe Faraut in England as well as at The Florence Academy of Art. Furthermore, she took advanced classes with various visual artists, including Valentina Zlatarova and Suzie Zamit in England. In 2019, she traveled to Catalonia for lessons with Eudald de Juana Goriz, primarily in sculpting the human torso from a model.

She herself is a teacher at, among others, NKO (formerly SBB) in Gouda.

The work of Carien van Dongen reflects the versatility of the people around us and the characters that reside within ourselves. They are images of people we recognize without having actually met them.

Carien depicts humanity in all its manifestations. The various characters reveal themselves with great expressiveness. Perhaps all the more so because the portraits leave 'fixed laws' open and do not clearly state gender, ethnicity, or age. Pure character. Characteristic of ceramics.
